Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, Via Stuart Highway, 30km north of Coober Pedy, South Australia.

The 2021 course was an out and back track, running from the main lookout, past Two Dogs, across the "moon plain" and alongside the dingo fence. Check out the route or download a gpx file.

Changes to the route are anticipated for 2022. The new route and gpx file will be added in early 2022.

Aid stations

There are aid stations along the length of the 10.5km track. Stations are manned, have first aid provisions, radios, drinks/nibbles and toilets.

Fresh fruit will be available at the 10.5km turn-around point for the longer distance events.

Prams and dogs

Competitors may push a pram or take their dog on the course. Dogs must be on a lead at all times. Nuisance dogs will be removed from the park.

Children in prams must be registered for insurance purposes but no entry fee is required.

Competitors with prams or dogs must start at the rear of the pack and ensure they do not get in the way of other runners.

Pre-qualification

Competitors are able to enter any of the distances. All runners in the marathon must be at least 18 years of age.

Running is hard work - competitors are expected to be physically fit and suitably trained.

Entry process

Online entries will open soon. You may also enter at the Coober Pedy Council Chambers until 5pm on Tuesday 17 May.

Entries on the day will be accepted.

Late entries including on-the-day entries:

  • will attract an additional $10 fee

  • must be made at least 30 mins before the scheduled start time of each event

  • are CASH ONLY.

All entries must be paid before race number collection.

*Special entry rates for local young runners

Thanks to people who love running from all around Australia, money has been raised to cover the entry fees for local young runners.

If you are U16 years of age and live in Coober Pedy or surrounding areas, you can enter the 10km, 5km or Mini Bolt event for FREE. But if your legs are made for running and you want to have a go at the Halfie, you can take part by paying the discounted $5.00 entry.

Just fill out your registration form and enter as a local junior.

Shuttle buses

Free shuttle buses run to and from the park during the event.​ Competitors, families and community members can use this service. Competitors will be given priority on early buses.

Children must be accompanied by a carer who is 16 years of age or older. For safety reasons, unaccompanied children under 16 will not be permitted to travel on the shuttle buses.

A timetable will be added prior to the event.
